Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has told the Wall Street Journal that Taiwan’s isolation will diminish as global backlash against Beijing’s forceful foreign policy grows.
In the interview, published Wednesday, Wu said that many governments will come to see Taiwan as a model of how democratic countries can resist China.
Wu said that China has won over a number of Taiwan’s allies in recent years, but failed to live up to its commitments of economic support to these countries. He said Taiwan is looking for opportunities to take back allies that regret recognizing Beijing.
Wu highlighted efforts to get foreign companies to stop labeling Taiwan as a province of China and stop removing Taiwan’s flag from their websites. He said Taiwan has succeeded in persuading around a third of companies to take measures such as making Taiwan a choice in lists of countries and regions.
